Have you ever had someone leave you? There are numerous reasons why people leave, they move, they die they grow up or maybe grow distant. In John 6:67-68 there were some people who had decided to follow Jesus but in hearing a difficult teaching they bailed. Jesus then turns to the twelve and asks “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Simon Peter answers, “Lord, to whom shall we go?”
Jesus, being all knowing didn’t have to ask the question since He already knew the answer but perhaps He asked on our account, so we could see this simple but awesome answer.
…perhaps He (Jesus) asked on our account, so we could see this simple but awesome answer.
To “whom” shall we go…? Not, where shall we go. For the twelve, and us today, who else would lead them, who else would feed their souls, who else would speak and heal and feed the multitudes? Simon Peter knew whom he served.
Maybe this is part of our problem today, not looking at Him, Jesus for our resolve. We tend to look at “what” will feed me, will make me happy, feel loved or pretty/handsome. “Where” will I find those things? Will going out with my friends, maybe a shopping spree? No. We have to go back to whom… Jesus, Lord, Master, Savior, Counselor, Provider. We can not give all those names and titles to any other person, place or thing.
We have to go back to whom… Jesus, Lord, Master, Savior, Counselor, Provider.
So, if you are struggling with where things are in your life remember, to whom you shall go. He is waiting for you, ready to lead you, feed you and provide, but know; it may not be in the way you had imagined it. Trust His leading.
